Dr. Gerald F. Ronning 
has had a private practice in Psychiatry in the Twin Cities for over thirty years. ​

He is a graduate of the University of Minnesota Medical School, a Board Certified Psychiatrist, trained in and practiced Neurology and Neuropathology, is a Fellow of the Yale and London Research Training Programmes of the International Psychoanalytical Association, and was a Candidate at the Chicago Institute of Psychoanalysis as well as a member of the Minnesota Psychoanalytic Society

He is the first Research Associate with the University of Minnesota’s Children, Youth and Family Consortium, and is on the clinical faculty of the University of Illinois Chicago

Dr. Ronning is a 
Project Facilitator for MScs Course in MSc in Developmental Psychology and Clinical Practice offered by the University College of London and the Anna Freud Center in collaboration with the Children's Residential Treatment Center in Minneapolis.

He is the Principal investigator for "The Predictive Patterns of Language" at the  Children's Residential Treatment Center, sponsored by the Volunteers of America. The purpose of this research is to study the clinical value of a standardized linguistic text analysis to predict violence, suicide and treatment outcome in severely emotionally disturbed adolescents.

He has been a member of the clinical faculty in the departments of Psychiatry and Family Practice at the University of Minnesota. He has developed and directed inpatient treatment programs for adults and adolescents, has written and presented on many topics, (including "Undifferentiated Primary Care Syndrome" for the Family Medicine:House Officers Series)


Dr. Ronning has produced award-winning mental-health related documentaries as well as  
multi-media presentations and programs.
